The hood with brass-capped swan-neck pediment above a cornice with triangular mouldings, outset reeded columns, the trunk door with central conch shell patera and flanked by chamfered and reeded sides, on plain stepped plinth, the 12in. wide arched white dial with floral decoration to the arch and spandrels, later cut steel hands, with painted subsidiary seconds ring and date aperture to the centre, signed Shaw BILLINGBORO (re-touched) pinned directly to the four pillar rack striking movement with anchor escapement, built up cheeks; composite, case, dial and movement associated, last quarter 18th century -- 82in. (212cm.) high
