Related ecuelles are discussed in Herman Jedding, Meissener Porzellan des 18 Jahrhunderts in Hamburger Privatbesitz, no. 166/167. A further related pair of ecuelles, covers and stands of similar form and moulded with similar cartouches, but painted in colours with vignettes after Watteau and encrusted with a trailing fruiting grape vine, was sold Anon. sale; Christie's, London, 5 December 1996, lot 239.

The standing figure of a woman found in one of the vignettes on the stand is taken from Watteau's painting entitled L'Aventurire now in the Musee des Beaux-Arts, Troyes, (Donald Posner, Antoine Watteau, New York, 1984, fig. 109).
