A George III mahogany longcase clock, circa 1780
The hood with carved flowerhead caps to the swan neck pediment and trellis work blind fret panelling below, with carved giltwood slip to the hood door and outset fluted columns to the front, with conforming pilasters to the rear, the trunk with blind fret panels below the throat, with wavy arch door flanked by fluted three quarter pilasters, the plain plinth with fluted angles and raised on bracket feet, the 13in. cut away brass dial with foliate spandrels to the silvered chapter ring, fliate scroll engraved centre with subsidiary seconds ring and date aperture, cut blued steel hands, painted rolling moon to the arch and signed along a panel above John Lawrence Lancaster, the four pillar rack striking movement with anchor escapement -- 99in. (252cm.) high
