Lot Essay

This 'double hatstand' was invoiced by Gillows in June 1823 at a cost of £18.10.0. each. The main supports would have previously had three branches issuing from each of the waisted sections. At present there are marks and holes where the branches would have been. A similar coat and stick stand, of approximately the same dimensions was offered anonymously, Sotheby's London, 4 June 1999, lot 236.
