Geneva, circa 1780, maker's mark 'LFT', with prestige marks resembling to the Paris date-letter 'K', to the charge mark of Julien Alaterre and the discharge mark of Julien Berthe, with the French post-1864 import mark for gold, the miniature French School, circa 1740
Oval box, the cover, side and base panels with translucent blue enamel on an engine-turned horizontal wavy ground, within white enamel borders, the cover centred with an oval bodycolour on parchment miniature of a gentleman bust-length in gold trimmed mauve velvet coat, long powdered wig, framed by a translucent brown enamelled scalloped surround, the borders enamelled with translucent brown bands alternating with foliage chased in two-colour gold, the side pilasters centred by gold silhouettes on oval translucent brown medallions hung from knotted ribbons
