A SWISS ENAMELLED GOLD SNUFF-BOX
possibly Geneva, 19th Century, maker's mark 'JBC', with marks resembling to the Paris date-letter 'N', to the charge and discharge marks of Jean-Baptiste Fouache
Oval box, the cover, side and base panels with translucent blue-green enamel on a ground of horizontal wavy engine-turning, within white enamel borders, the cover centred with a horizontal oval enamel plaque painted in purple camaieu with two putti filling their quiver with flowers, within a translucent green enamelled rope-twist frame, the frosted gold borders enamelled with translucent green leaves alternating with stripes of three opalescent beads, the side pilasters enamelled with matching beads and hung with translucent green enamelled ribbon festoons
