A FINE LARGE DOUCAI JARDINIERE
QIANLONG SEAL MARK AND OF THE PERIOD

The rounded ovoid sides rising to a wide rim, finely painted on the exterior with Mughal-style lotus medallions surmounted by feathery foliate plumes, divided by interlocking ruyi-head and feathery foliate wreaths between lotus panels around the foot and a band of interlocking quatrefoils each enclosing chrysanthemum or lotus flowerheads below the rim, the nianhao within a countersunk disc

Similar Qianlong-marked jardinieres are illustrated in Sekai Toji Zenshu, Shogakukan series, vol. 15, pls. 94 and 95; and Ming Shin no Bijutsu, pl. 191; an example in the Osaka Museum, illustrated in Ming and Qing Ceramics and Works of Art, no.191; and another now in the Shanghai Museum is illustrated in Selected Ceramics from the Collection of Mr. and Mrs. J.
