The rectangular top above a rectangular writing-slope with serpentine top edge and reading stand enclosing a long pigeon-hole above two short pigeon-holes flanked by four stepped short drawers above a secret compartment and a gilt-tooled burgundy leather-inset writing surface, the bombé front with quarter-veneered middle section flanked by two short drawers above a long drawer and shaped apron, the sides quarter-veneered, the back half-veneered, on cabriole legs with scrolled acanthus-sheathed sabots, inscribed in pink chalk AM/56, the lid of the well in mahogany and probably replaced

Lot Essay

Guillaume Schwingkens's maîtrise is not recorded, but he was established in the Faubourg-Saint-Antoine before moving to the rue de Charenton around 1745. He died in 1760.
