With seal Kan, Edo Period (19th Century)
Black lacquer ground; decoration in enamelled pottery and gold and silver takamaki-e with shell; compartments and risers gold nashiji; shoulders and rims gold lacquer; with a silver hiramaki-e seal on one side Kan; caparisoned elephant in the style originally associated with Ogawa Haritsu (1663-1747)
