Provenance: flyleaf inscription dated 1806; Charles Louis de Bourbon, comte de Villefranche (liturgical library bookplate).
SECOND EDITION. The printing of liturgical books was highly specialised, owing in particular to the difficulties encountered in printing music. Plannck was the main liturgical book printer at Rome in the final 15 years of the 15th century; 'his books reveal a high standard of fine and exact craftmanship' (Meyer-Baer, p. xxxv). He employed a superior technique in the printing of the 1497 Pontificale, whereby the staves consist of single column-width rules. They were printed with the rubrics after the notes had been printed with the text. HC *13287=13286; BMC IV, 99 (IB. 18581); CIBN P-580; IGI 8021; Meyer-Baer 230; Goff P-934.
