2° in 4's (330 x 212mm). Double column. Engraved frontispiece portrait of Fletcher by William Marshall in second state. Woodcut initials and ornaments. (Frontispiece cropped with slight loss of lower border and window-mounted, title lightly soiled and with nicks at margins, A2r and 3A4 with closed tear into text, D2v with small ink blot, I4 with rust hole, 7D2 with paper flaws, a few marginal tears and repairs, tear on 8C4 slightly affecting text on verso, occasional spots and stains, quires 5A and 5E waterstained at upper margin.) Gilt-panelled red morocco by Sangorski and Sutcliffe, gilt turn-ins, gilt edges.

FIRST EDITION, possibly edited by James Shirley, containing all but one of the hitherto unpublished plays. Among the complimentary poems are contributions by Ben Jonson and Robert Herrick, while Grandison's address 'To the Stationer' introduces the volume with the lines: 'Tell the sad World that now the lab'ring Presse/Has brought forth safe a Child of happinesse, The Frontis-piece will satisfie the wise And good so well, they will not grudge the price.'
