8° (169 x 102mm). Half-title. 16-leaf Chapman & Hall catalogue dated 'August, 1849' bound in at the end. (A few leaves lightly spotted.) Early 20th-century crushed green morocco gilt elaborately gilt and decorated with coloured onlays by Riviere & Son, the boards with central ovals formed by narrow purple onlaid bands surrounded by gilt holly leaves interspersed with red onlaid berries, within frames of interlaced onlaid blue and tan strapwork, with an external surround of gilt holly-leaf tools on textured gilt grounds, the borders formed of onlaid purple bands with blue onlay decoration, the board edges gilt, crimson morocco doublures with Easter lilies depicted in white and green onlays below gilt stars, within borders formed by broad purple onlay bands roll-tooled in gilt and edged with black onlaid bands, red watered-silk free endpapers, the spine gilt in 6 compartments divided by raised bands, titled in gilt in 2 and dated at the foot, the other compartments decorated with purple onlays gilt with an art nouveau design, top edge gilt, fitted straight-grained morocco covered box, the sides with gilt double-fillet border, the spine gilt in compartments and titled in gilt, the interior lined with watered silk and velvet (silk tapes in box a little frayed, the extremities of the box lightly rubbed and chipped).
