The first 16th Century, possibly Italian, the second in German Gothic style
The first of bright steel, comprising upper and lower canons, the lower in two parts hinged together, cowter of three plates, and turning-joint with three articulated plates above, the main edges turned and roped (some pitting and brazed repairs, cowter holed and dented); the second each with long slightly flared pointed cuff decorated with flutes and sunken bands, linked by two articulated lames to a broad metacarpel plate, all with further flutes, knuckle-guard rising to four conical points, overlapping finger-scales riveted to leathers, and hinged thumb-defence en suite
