Of large proportions, the rectangular frame with projecting corners carved with an acanthus outer edge, a Vitruvian scroll border with acanthus corners and a ribbon and foliate carved raised inner edge, the sides hung with floral festoons

Lot Essay

The architectural frame with its oak and acanthus festoons and Vitruvian wave-scrolled fret is designed in the George II 'Roman' fashion popularised by Isaac Ware in his 'Designs of Inigo Jones and others', 1732 and 'Complete Body of Architecture', 1756.
