A Tall and Engraved Shakudo Flower Vase
Taisho Period (circa 1925), engraved signature Ryoun Moriyuki and with seal Moriyuki
Cylindrical, with a rocky outcropping studded with lichen and sacred fungus (reishi) by a stand of bamboo below a pair of couplets of a Chinese poem; hammered and chiseled, the lichens and fungus finished in silver, gold, copper and shibuichi, the bamboo and grasses in gilt, the characters of the poem deeply engraved and silvered and signed Mizunoe-inu no natsu nanajurokusai Hakudo Gen ([by] Hakudo Gen, age 76, summer, 1922) and with three gilded seals of the poet; vase also signed by the metalsmith Settsu Kaishozan no fumoto kokio Ryoun Moriyuki horu (carved by Ryoun Moriyuki, age 70, at the foot of Mount Kaisho, Settsu province) and sealed Moriyuki; fitted with a removable copper liner finished with a rust-red patina
