[BOOTH, John Wilkes]. Printed playbill for a performance in which Booth appeared at Allyn Hall, Hartford, Connecticut, on Wednesday, 21 October 1863. 434 x 150 mm., 40 mm. tear and small stain to blank margins, upper portion expertly mounted on 4o card. Advertisement for the appearance of Booth as Claude Melnotte in the play, Lady of Lyons, a romantic work of Edward Bulwer Lytton. The role was one in which Booth infrequently appreared. Reviewers often noted that it was one "which would be 'especially pleasing to the ladies'" (G. Samples, Lust for Fame: The Stage Career of John Wilkes Booth, p.69 and 220). Booth handbills are increasingly scarce.
