RUSSEL, William Hepburn (1812-1875).
Pioneer freighter and expressman, founder of the Pony Express.
Document signed ("Wm H. Russell"), Jackson County, Missouri, June 9, 1860. 2 pages recto and verso, legal folio, being an Indemnification bond for $4,000 for use at Camp Floyd in Utah Territory. The document is also signed by numerous others including G.H. Grossman, Deputy Quartermaster General. The right edge of the pages are slightly curled but the rare signature is clear and unaffected. Enclosed in a 1/4 morocco case, gilt lettered spine with marbled boards.
