Signed Kajikawa saku, Edo Period (19th Century)
Gold lacquer ground; decoration in gold and aokin takamaki-e, gold foil, horn and shell, applied with a shibuichi, copper and gold circular plaque with a shell rim; compartments and risers gold nashiji; shoulders and rims gold lacquer; signed in gold hiramaki-e on the base Kajikawa saku [made by Kajikawa] with a red lacquer pot seal Ei; stone ojime; ivory kagami netsuke set with a shibuichi, copper and gold circular plaque
Millet plants with a snail creeping along one of the leaves, its shell rendered in horn applied over gold foil, a circular plaque applied to one side depicting a herdboy seated on an ox, an identical design on the kagami netsuke
