A CONTINENTAL BRASS AND ENAMEL MUSICAL SINGING BIRD CLOCK
The musical movement by Nicole Frères; circa 1900
The case enamelled overall with multi-coloured champlevé enamel to the base on foliate paw feet and to the concave moulding beneath the four detached columns supporting the breakarch top with foliate-cast moulding and surmounted by four enamelled foliate-cast urns, the arched dial with gilt chapter ring painted with black and red Roman numerals and with pierced black painted hands, the centre set with enamelled rose-pierced mount, enamelled foliate spandrels above and below with subsidiary selection discs on the left for AT SILENT; EACH HOUR; MUSIC - on the right SILENT; BIRD; EACH HOUR, the fully feathered bird above within naturalistic surroundings moving its beak, head and wagging its tail, the four pillar movement with twin barrels and anchor escapement and strike on a steel gong, the backplate stamped A.1;7524;1856 & Made in France, the bird movement just below with
