The moulded rectangular top with brown and gilt-tooled leather writing-surface inset with twin reading-supports and two hinged hidden compartments above twin leather-lined writing-slides, above six frieze drawers and each corner with a blind fretwork panel, above a fluted column, the kneehole flanked to each side by three graduated drawers on a plinth, restorations

Lot Essay

Similar ormolu handles with star-shaped back plates, feature on a desk which bears the inscription 'Robe Hyde. Table Maker Ye Worksop Nottinghamshire, 12 August 1786', advertised by Jeremy Ltd. of Chelsea, The Connoisseur, October 1973.
A similar library pedestal desk, with fluted columns to each corner, and with panelled sides and doors was sold anonymously, in these Rooms, 7 July 1994, lot 137.
