A French brass and enamel-mounted striking and repeating carriage clock with alarm, early 20th century
The anglaise case with grooved angles and Greek key handle, the porcelain side panels with gilt borders adorned with turquoise jewelling and each painted with the scene of two lovers beneath a tree with Cupid hovering above, the similarly decorated dial (hairline cracks to top) with a couple walking towards one another below and amorous trophies to the centre, the royal blue chapter ring with individual gilt-bordered cartouche chapters on white reserves, blued steel spade hands, with plain white alarm dial below, the twin barrel movement with silvered platform to the bimetallic balance with lever escapement, strike/repeat/alarm on gong to the backplate -- 61/3in. (16cm.) high
