Maker's mark of Paul Storr, London, 1827, the plinth 1837
The square plinth with moulded borders, applied with two laurel wreaths and engraved with a coat-of-arms and inscription, the campana-shaped vase on spreading circular foot chased to simulate a grassy mound, the stem formed as a vine and the bowl cast and chased overall with fruiting vines on a matted ground, marked on vase and plinth

Lot Essay

A design for a similar vase, but with bracket handles, is included in an album of drawings in the Victorian and Albert Museum, entitled 'Designs for Plate by John Flaxman etc.' These designs were produced for the Royal Goldsmiths Rundell, Bridge and Rundell by John Flaxman R.A. (1755-1826), William Theed R.A. (1754-1817) and others.
