A Very Rare Italian (Probably Milanese) Lower-Cannon And Cowter Of A Vambrace For The Left Arm, With Reinforce (Guard Of The Vambrace)
Circa 1450-60
The lower-cannon of two gutter-shaped plates hinged together, secured by a strap and buckle (replaced), and with the edges turned at the wrist and inside of the elbow, the sharply-pointed cowter articulated twice above and below (top plate repaired), and with small oval side-wing (slight damage) carrying a staple for the attachment, by means of a cross-pin (replaced), of the large elegant shell-like reinforce, shaped closely to the cowter and extending round the inside of the elbow, its edges bearing the traces of a narrow applied border held by rivets (the holes now filled with modern rivets), at the top a double split-cross mark
