A fine late 19th-Century brass and carbon tool steel apprentice model of a vertical reversing twin cylinder compound marine engine
built by J.Colleoni in 1897, with metal-bound, mahogany lagged, brass cylinders 1¼in and 1¾in. bores x 1¼in. stroke, H.P. cylinder head lubricator, piston rod tail shafts, studded stuffing boxes, draincocks and pipes, transfer pipe, rear frame mounted bar type crosshead guides, L.P. crosshead driven feed pump with expansion chamber, hand lever and quadrant operated Stephenson's link reverse, barrelled connecting rods with marine type big end bearings, finished in polished brightwork, brass bed and mahogany bearers mounted on a mahogany base with four bun, feet and plaques engraved 'Technology of the Nineteenth Century Working Model of a Contemporary Double-Acting, Double Expansion Direct Reversible Marine Steam Engine' and 'Hand fabricated from brass and carbon tool steel by Joseph Colleoni in Year 1897 at age Seventeen Years while serving his apprenticeship' -- 11½ x 9½in.
