A rare nickel-brass surveying sextant,
signed on the index arm Coutureau Inv.r, and engraved on the prism bridge R.F, and on the underside 135, the frame with prism bridge and mirrors, the curved index arm with silvered vernier scale set to read against the silvered arc, engraved 0°-150°, with similar curved scale magnifier, spring-loaded tangent-screw fine adjustment and clamp, the solid frame with engine-turned decoration, inset with a simple compass, the edge-bar needle with jewelled cap and clamp screw located on the underside, the index arm radius -- 2½in. (6.3cm.), contained in the original fitted mahogany keystone and stepped shaped case with single brass hook and eye -- 6in. (15.2cm.) radius
