The case surmounted by figures of a male and female amorino with trophies emblematic of the Sciences, the boy cutting the teeth of a wheel, with inset white marble panels to the sides, the canted front angles cast in relief with stylised trailing foliage and birds, a gallery above the base modelled with trailing vines, on conforming feet, with foliate scroll engraved gilt mask to the dials, white enamel outside seconds ring (hairline cracks), with white enamel Roman hour and minute dial with steel moon hands at 30, the recessed centre also white enamel and with visible Brocot escapement, rubbed signature, with subsidiary white enamel dials below for day, date and month (lacking hand), the twin barrel movement with strike on bell to the backplate stamped Brocot Breveté 1672 -- 19½in. (49.5cm.) high
