The case with brass handle to inverted bell top, two panels to each side with cut and incised brass frets, conforming quarter frets to the top of the front door, the stepped and moulded base raised on later brass bun feet, the 7in. brass dial with mask and foliate spandrels to a silvered chapter ring with lozenge half hour markers, the matted centre with date aperture and recessed panel signed David Pain London, with cut steel hands, strike/not strike lever by III, the arch above with painted penny moon within a subsidiary ring engraved with zodiacal symbols, the five pillar twin wire fusee movement with later anchor escapement, lacking repeat work, the backplate profusely engraved with foliate scrolls and signed David Pain London No. 523, on later seatboard -- 18¾in. (47.5cm.) high
