A LARGE TIMURID LUSTRE AND COBALT MOULDED POTTERY INSCRIPTION TILE
Persia, 15th Century
Inscribed on a white ground in dark brown lustre with the names of the twelve Imans, outlined with blue, smaller inscription panels above and below, the upper panel written across a panel already moulded with a different design, with psuedo key-pattern border, intact, wooden frame

Lot Essay

The inscriptions are:
The top panel: Qur'an, sura xl, parts of v.16, followed by "God is most Great.
The upper band repeats the word Allah
The main panel contains the call to bless "the Fourteen Innocents"
The lower band: "May the blessing of God and his salutation be upon him and upon all of them"
