Lot Essay

The maker IR, was active in both Fürth and Nuremberg in the last third of the eighteenth Century. A large quantity of Jewish ceremonial objects produced by him have survived and been documented i.d.: Torah Shields (Grafman 25 and 32); (Weber 31); Rimmonim (Grafman 300); Torah Pointers (Grafman 544 and 545); Kiddush Cup (Kayser 101); Spice Tower (Weber 34); The Sassoon Shabbat Lamp (Important Judaica, Sotheby's Tel Aviv, April 1997 lot no.19).
For an extensive discussion regarding the problem of the hallmarks, see Grafman's remarks for no.32, with references to other Fürth pieces.
