the taupe ground embroidered in coloured silk with the Banishment of Hagar and Ishmael (Genesis 21: 9-21) in a deep landscape on hillocky ground, to the left Ishmael mocks his younger brother Isaac, so that his mother, Sarah, asks Abraham to banish him, together with his mother Hagar, as depicted in the centre between two trees with a palace in the background, to the right the archangel Michael appears to Hagar, pointing to a well in the desert, the ground with an array of flowers with a dog, rabbits, one emerging from a hole, a stag, moths and a snail--25 x 22in. (62.5 x 55cm.), glazed, in veneer walnut frame
