FIVE ARMORIAL PLATES
18th Century
The first, famille verte, with central coat-of-arms, helmet and supporters, the coronet and crest at the border below a narrow band of gilt scroll at the rim; the second, famille rose with delicately enamellled flowers around a central coat-of-arms and helmet, a coronet and cypher at the border; another with arms, supporters and coronet at the centre below gilt scroll at the rim; the fourth, with the arms probably of Nicholas above the motto FORWARD, spearhead and flowers and the well and border; and another, repaired
all about 8¾ in. (22.5 cm.) diam. (5)

Lot Essay

The first plate was probably made for a Dutch or French family; the second probably for a Dutch family; the third probably for a French family; for the arms on the fourth plate, see D. S. Howard, Chinese Armorial Porcelain, 1974, London, p.453; the fifth plate is thought to have been made for a French admiral.
