Yongzheng (1723-35)
The pair delicately enamelled with a central quatrefoil panel, one enclosing a lady playing a qin and the other with a lady looking into a mirror, reserved on a grisaille and white ground, the border of oxidised silver reserved with enamel floral cartouches alternating with iron-red and gilt panels; and another similarly decorated

Lot Essay

An identical plate to one of the pair is illustrated by A. du Boulay, Christie's Pictorial History of Chinese Ceramics, 1984, p.265, fig.19, and sold in these Rooms, 14 June 1976,, lot 81. A pair of very similar plates from the W. Martin-Hurst collection sold in these Rooms 29 November 1971, lot 80.
