All iron and 19th century unless otherwise stated: shallow mokkogata [square with indented corners], tsuchimeji [hammered ground], lightly carved with lotus, silver and gilt details, signed Yoshitane, 2in. (5.1cm.); yamagane [bronze] mokkogata with vertical grooving, inlaid with gilt paulownia crests, tachikanagushi work, 16th century, 2½in. (6.4cm.); broad oval, migakiji, a tiger in gilt takazogan [relief inlay], the rim gilt, 2½in. (6.4cm.); broad oval, brass inlaid with a stylised chrysanthemum, flowers and pine cones, later inlaid with insects in iroe takazogan [soft-metal relief inlay], Heianjo school, c. 1600, 2 7/8in. (7.3cm.); large broad oval, lightly chiselled with Zodiac animals, signed Nobuie, 17th century, 2¾in. (7cm.); round, lightly carved and inlaid with a shakudo [copper-gold alloy] hut in a mountainous landscape, gilt details, Aizu work, 3 1/8in. (8cm.); round, pierced with a stylised wheel, 2¾in.
