The dial signed GILLES.DE BEEFE/A LIEGE in the centre of the white-enamelled dial with individual Roman and Arabic cartouches, the movement with twin going barrels and four back-pinned pillars, verge escapement and outside countwheel strike on a bell above, the case of waisted form applied with foliate ormolu mounts, with a conforming wall bracket en suite, surmounted by a bell-shaped top with a figural finial of a Chinaman, restorations

Gilles de Beefe was born in 1694 in Liège. He worked in Lissabon and became horloger du prince-èvêque de Liege in 1740 and in 1767 in Maastricht.
