The hood with moulded swan neck pediment, the outset fluted columns with gilt-metal Corinthian capitals, the shaped rectangular trunk door crossbanded and inlaid with boxwood lines and flanked by fluted pilasters, above a plain plinth with conforming inlay, raised on a skirting, the 12in. wide silvered dial engraved with scrolling foliate and floral spandrels to the Roman and Arabic chapter ring, floral engraved centre with subsidiary seconds ring, square date aperture, steel hands, with signature to the arch Jas Howden Edinburgh, the four pillar rack striking movement with anchor escapement, cheekboards built up, dial and movement probably associated to case -- 86in. (218cm.) high
