A THREE-TIER LACQUER COSMETIC CASE (TEBAKO)

Designed as a three-tier square stand with flat top which forms the lid to the cosmetic case when the stand is inserted into the outer black and gold container; the three shallow tiers lacquered in black, gold and silver togidashi in a mokume pattern and the lid decorated in gold hiramaki-e with a curled dragon on a matching ground, heart-shaped apertures lined in silver in all corners, undersides of the shelves and base nashiji; the outer case decorated with a pine beach and waves in gold and black togidashi, kirigane, nashiji and kimpun on a roiro-nuri ground--3 7/8 x 3 7/8 x 6¼in.
