YI DYNASTY (19TH CENTURY)

The rectangular box and hinged lid applied with intersected square panels of birds, carp, deer, dragons, phoenixes and other mythological beasts amongst lush flowers and trees or waves and cloud borders, all on yellow grounds, the lid applied with eight larger square panels of four confronted dragons surrounded by two phoenixes on each side, the edge of the lid applied with a wide band of horn, metal fittings, the interior wood- 14 3/4 x 9 x 8 3/8 in. (37.4 x 22.9 x 21.3 cm.), cracks, losses, some panels warped, in fitted wood box
