EDO PERIOD (LATE 18TH/EARLY 19TH CENTURY)
The rectangular writing box and cover decorated in gold and silver takamakie, hiramakie, nashiji and togidashi with a pine and flowering peony amongst rockwork, set against an abstract geometric design, the interior in similar technique with flowering plum retained within a fence set by a river, the silver water dropper formed as a kashiwa mon, fitted with two brush trays, wood storage box, slight wear and damage to the interior - 9 1/2 x 8 3/4 x 2 in. (24.1 x 22.3 x 5 cm.)
