A KENJO STYLE TSUBA
EDO PERIOD (GENROKU ERA, 1688-1704)

The round iron plate has large openings around the kogai shaped hitsu-ana. The rim is slightly rounded. The surface area is covered in two tones of gold nunome zogan which depicts chrysanthemum flowerheads and scrolling karakusa. The design repeats with slight variation on the reverse. The gold nunome on the rim is mostly worn away--height 8.5cm., width 8.3cm., thickness 5mm.

Accompanied by a tokubetsu kicho certificate issued by the N.B.T.H.K., no. 148, dated April 15th, 1971.
