MUROMACHI PERIOD (CIRCA 1570)
Configuration (sugata): flat (hira-zukuri) with shallow peaked back (iori-mune); length (nagasa): 9 sun, 3 bu (28.1cm.); curvature (sori): almost none; carving (horimono): bo-hi on both sides.
Forging pattern (jihada): chu-mokume.
Tempering pattern (hamon): rigid irregular clove-like patterns (choji midare) in nioi and ko-nie with yakidashi at the hamachi.
Point (boshi): notare-komi with medium turn-back.
Tang (nakago): shape (keitai): regular and unshortened (ubu); file marks (yasurime): o-sujikai; end (nakagojiri): rounded (kurijiri); holes (mekugi-ana): two; signature (mei): unsigned (mumei).
Shirasaya.
Aikuchi koshirae, the mounts Mito Ichiryu school style, late 19th century, comprising: a saya decorated with stormy clouds and flaming tama in gold and black togidashi mounted with a shibuichi o-koiguchi deeply carved as a dragon, and an o-kojiri carved in high relief with a tiger on rockwork; a tsuka wrapped in red baleen (kujira maki) mounted with gold menuki formed as gold dragons and shibuichi fuchi-kashira carved as dragons in clouds--length of koshirae 43.9cm.; length of tsuka 11.7cm.; length of kozuka 9.8cm. Slight crack to the saya.
Accompanied by a futsu kicho token certificate issued by the N.B.T.H.K., dated Showa 36 (1961).
