EDO PERIOD (CIRCA 1820), SIGNED "KIKU, ICHI" AND BIZEN OSAFUNE [NO] JU YOKOYAMA KAGA NO KAMI FUJIWARA SUKENAGA TOMONARI GOJUROKU-DAI NOMAGO

Configuration (sugata): with longitudinal ridge line (shinogi-zukuri), shallow peaked back (iori-mune) and medium point (chu-kissaki); length (nagasa): 1 shaku, 5 sun, 9 bu (48.5cm.); curvature (sori): koshi-zori of 0.7cm.; increase in width of blade (fumbari): 0.7cm.
Forging pattern (jihada): ko-mokume.
Tempering pattern (hamon): irregular clove-like patterns (choji midare) with some yakidashi.
Point (boshi): small and rounded (ko-maru).
Tang (nakago). Shape (keitai): regular, Bizen type; file marks (yasurime): slanted (katte-sagari); end (nakagojiri): ha-agari kurijiri; holes (mekugi-ana): one; signature (katanamei): "Kiku, Ichi", Bizen Osafune [no] ju/Yokoyama Kaga [no] Kami Fujiwara Sukenaga Tomonari gojuroku-dai nomago.

Shirasaya.

Wakizashi koshirae comprising: a saya of black lacquer; a tsuka mounted with a pair of shakudo menuki formed as dragons and a fuchi-kashira decorated with a raised and sunken checkerboard design of manji and a gold stylized floral crest; a Ko-kinko shakudo tsuba formed in the shape of a ring of open fans; a shakudo nanako kozuka decorated with gold sode and a bamboo pole.-- Length of koshirae 69.7cm.; length of tsuka 16.2cm.; tsuba height 7.3cm., width 6.7cm., thickness 5mm.; length of kozuka 9.6cm. Slight dents, cracks, scratches and chips to the saya.

Accompanied by a futsu kicho token certificate issued by the N.B.T.H.K., no. 57980, dated Showa 36 (1961).
