EDO PERIOD (19TH CENTURY)

The large rectangular box with hinged door fitted with three inner drawers, decorated on the exterior in gold and silver takamaki-e and togidashi with details of mura-nashiji, cut gold and hiramaki-e, with large fan reserves of landscapes outlined in silver with silver fan sticks reserved on a ground of gyobu-nashiji, the drawers rendered in togidashi and takamaki-e with branches of cherry blossoms floating on a gently swirling stream, the interiors of the drawers nashiji, silver mounts chased with foliate scroll- 9 1/4 x 6 1/8 x 7 1/4 in. (23.4 x 15.5 x 18.5 cm.)
