MUROMACHI PERIOD (CIRCA 1500), SIGNED MURAMASA
Configuration (sugata): yari; length (nagasa): 1 shaku, 2 sun, 4 bu (37.6cm.); carving (horimono): a single hi.
Forging pattern (jihada): regular and straight wood grains (itame masame).
Tempering pattern (hamon): small invections with erratic high, slanting peaks (ko-gonome saka-gonone) and with extensive areas of 'swept sands' (sunagashi), especially near the boshi and hamachi.
Point (boshi): narrowly brushed (hakikake) turning inside onto itself and forming an eddy with a small touch of tempering.
Tang (nakago). Shape (keitai): slender, of rectangular section and with a dry, brown patina; file marks (yasurime): slanted (katte-sagari) and vertical; end (nakagojiri): squared (kiri-jiri); holes (mekugi-ana): two; signature (mei), Muramasa.

Accompanied by a tokubetsu kicho token certificate, no. 30312, Showa 33 (probably intended to be 43 [1968]); and a koshu tokubetsu kicho token certificate, no. 19874, Showa 55 (1980), issued by the N.B.T.H.K.
