DATED 1937, SIGNED YASUHIRO MOTTE KOKYU TETSU KORE-O SAKU


Configuration (sugata): with longitudinal ridge line (shinogi-zukuri), shallow peaked back (iori-mune) and 'boar's neck' point (ikubi-kissaki); length (nagasa): 2 shaku, 1 sun, 6 bu (66.9 cm.); curvature (sori): koshi-zori of 1.7 cm.; decrease in width of blade (fumbari): 1.0 cm.
Forging pattern (jihada): extremely tightly compacted wood and straight grains (itame masame).
Tempering pattern (hamon): extremely shallow irregular invections (gonome) wih extensive 'rootlets' (ashi), frequently slanted (saka-ashi) and along the length of both sides, all executed in bright nioi and nie.
Point (boshi): midare-komi ending in a sharp point and reversing to beyond the yokote.
Tang (nakago) shape (keitai): slender, tapering, slightly uplifted, ubu and with a clean, grey-brown surface; end (nakagojiri): rounded (kuri-jiri); holes (mekugi-ana): two'; signature (mei), tachi-mei: Yasuhiro motte kokyu tetsu kore-o saku (Yasuhiro made this with high quality iron), Kato Akira-shi ni okuru Inagaki Seiichiro. (Presented to Mr. Kato Akira from Inagaki Seiichiro.); date (jidai): outside (omote): Koto ni-sen go-hyaku kyu-ju-hachi-nen san-gatsu kichi tatsu (auspicious [year of the] dragon, third month of the 2598th year of the Imperial Line [1937]); inside (ura): Showa 12-nen 11-gatsu kichi-nichi (an auspicious day in the 11th month of Showa 12 [1938]).
