A LATE RENAISSANCE TAPESTRY
LATE 16TH CENTURY

The walnut strap-work square medallion enclosing a polychrome double acanthus spray on an abrash reddish-brown field filled with boldly swirling polychrome vinceaux some terminating in masks, within a cream border of ormoluesque scrolling acanthus with red balls at corners and indigo strap-work squares on each side and one heraldic device (losses to surface splits at color weft changes, minor areas of restoration)- approximately 16ft. 3in. x 10ft. 9in. (4m. 95cm. x 3m. 28cm.)
