A HIRADO WARE BLUE AND WHITE URN
EDO PERIOD (19TH CENTURY)
The large urn with rounded body, elongated cylindrical neck moulded with two animal-head-and-tongue handles and with very wide, flared mouth, painted in underglaze blue with carp swimming amongst rocks in a stream above a band of stylized waves at the foot and below long, hanging willow branches encircling the neck, the galleried rim additionally painted with stylized meander, the body and interior glazed glossy white- 15 1/4 in. (38.7 cm.) high
