Red straight-grained morocco, elaborately tooled in gilt and blind, turn-ins similarly tooled, gilt-tooled pale blue watered-silk doublures and liners, FINE FORE-EDGE PAINTING OF THE LAWNMARKET IN EDINBURGH, g.e., by ABRAM THOMSON OF EDINBURGH with his ticket (spine darkened, joints somewhat scuffed).

A fine binding, with a lively, highly competent but unsigned view of contemporary Edinburgh. Abram Thomson is listed by Ramsden (p.220) and appears in various directories between 1807 and 1837. Another fine example of his work is illustrated in Maggs Bros. cat. 1014 (item 56).
