A HAND-WOVEN LINEN TORAH BINDER, embroidered with beige, brown, green, red, off-white, yellow and pastel blue silk thread, done in stem-, chain- and satin-stitch, made of four pieces joined together and finished all-around with a multi-coloured button-hole-stitch, decorated with floral motifs at the beginning, the end and along the seams, a bird on a branch holding a twig in its beak, an open Torah scroll inscribed in Hebrew, a stag and a scorpion titled in Hebrew mazzal akrab for the month Cheshvan in which the boy Yitschak was born, the letters filled in with human faces, birds, a fish, a goat's head, acorns and several floral designs, very minor staining, a few tiny old repairs, otherwise excellent condition, a beautiful binder, probably Germany, 1707
