The MG SA was introduced at the Motor Show in October 1935. It was very much built to cater for the family market and was a direct replacement for the KN Magnette. The engine was a large 2.2 litre, six cylinder giving the car a good turn of speed and the SA model continued to enhance the pioneering reputation that MG had previously achieved in four passenger motoring. The SA wheelbase was over ten feet, and this was graced by some of the best proportioned coachwork of the period. Following a beautifully flowing saloon model, the company expanded the range a year later with the introduction of a very handsome open four seat tourer by Charlesworth. These large open four seat touring cars are capable of carrying four full sized passengers in comfort and remain equally as good looking with the hood raised or lowered. They are now perhaps the rarest and most sought after design on the SA chassis.

This particular Charlesworth open four seat tourer is believed to have been an MG road test car and the file of history includes copies of period articles written about the vehicle. It was purchased for the collection in early 1991, and a full chassis-up restoration was undertaken. This work included removing the body from the chassis, replacing the ash body frame where necessary, re-panelling where necessary, rebuilding the engine and running gear, and a complete re-trim in new beige leather. The panel fit still requires a little more attention in places, although basically the car is in very good, sound and smart condition. The chrome was re-plated and all the interior woodwork re-polished. The hood was replaced and the car comes with a full set of reconditioned sidescreens. It is described as running and driving well.

A very rare car indeed.
