Rebuilt from flintlock, with rebrowned two-stage twist barrel and silver fore-sight, the breech section octagonal changing to polygonal and signed in full on the top flat, scroll engraved case-hardened breech signed 'T. Wallas Hexham', gold line and platinum plug, scroll engraved tang, signed serial numbered lock engraved with foliage terminating in monster-heads, highly figured maple half-stock, chequered grip, blued iron mounts engraved with foliage and with two game birds on the trigger-guard, silver escutcheon, barrel-bolt escutcheons and fore-end cap, iron- and brass-mounted ramrod, and faint traces of original finish: in original lined and fitted oak case with accessories, the lid with trade label for circa 1820-1822, and circular escutcheon engraved with owner's name 'R. Hodgson Esqr., Alston, Cumberland', London proof marks
